Elite Shutters & Blinds has been doing business for the past 4 1/2 years.  Dave and Michelle German decided to start a business in September of 2005 after buying a brand new home in Gilbert.  The neighborhood’s HOA required window coverings within the first 60 days of move-in dates, yet after calling several companies, the couple was unsuccessful at getting anyone to return their calls for estimates or for their business.  That poor service prompted the Germans to start Elite Shutters & Blinds, offering homeowners the service that they deserved.  The term “Elite” is defined as “the choice or best of anything considered collectively.”  This word seemed appropriate and parallels the couple’s business philosophy.

“Many people asked me why I left the hi-tech world to start a window covering business in one of the most saturated industries in the Valley.  My standard answer is because homeowners in the Valley needed something different … something better!” states the owner of Elite Shutters & Blinds.

The Arizona Small Business Association honors 37 companies at its fourth annual Coamerica Bank Arizona Companies to Watch awards dinner Nov 6th.  Elite Shutters & Blinds is one of the 37 companies to be recognized.

Elite Shutters & Blinds has been recognized as a recipient of the 2009 Comerica Bank Arizona Companies to Watch award, an honor presented by the Arizona Small Business Association, Comerica Bank and the Edward Lowe Foundation.

Thirty-seven companies from Arizona will receive their awards at an awards gala on Nov. 6 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel.
Comerica Bank Arizona Companies to Watch is an awards program that celebrates privately held second-stage companies based in Arizona. To be eligible, applicants must employ between 6 and 100 full-time equivalent employees and have between $750,000 and $100 million in annual revenue or working capital in place. Awardees are selected for demonstrating the intent and capacity to grow based on employee or sales growth, exceptional entrepreneurial leadership, sustainable competitive advantage or other notable strengths.

An Eloy-based business, with a home-based Maricopa office, is pulling in nominations for some prestigious awards.

Elite Shutters & Blinds was one of two runners-up in May for the Better Business Bureaus ethics award.“It is a great honor to be a runner-up for this award,” said the company’s owner, Dave German.
“It is very rare for a window covering firm to receive an ethics award.”

A total of 250 companies filled out an application of eligibility for the award after first receiving a nomination. That 115-page application included 40-50 letters from customers about how Elite had established ethics standards in the window covering industry.

While the company didn’t finish first for the ethics award, they are on the verge of being named one of the Arizona Small Business Association’s 10 companies to watch in 2010.

The award recognizes companies the organization views as the pride of Arizona, demonstrating outstanding performance in the marketplace or exhibiting innovative products or processes.

Elite received notification last week that it had made it through to round two of the selection process, and a second application is now necessary. The winners of the award will be announced Nov. 6 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel.
